Smythe is without a doubt a cool-girl Canadian brand.
A longtime favourite of stars ranging from the Princess of Wales (formerly known as the Duchess of Cambridge) — the company has a blazer dedicated to the beloved royal — to Blake Lively, the Toronto-based brand is known for its timeless, tailored wardrobe staples.
And now, that includes denim.
Featuring six silhouettes ranging from a highrise boot cut style to low-rise relaxed crop, in a mix of denim washes, the collection is available in sizes 24-32 and priced from $395 to $475.

Q: What made this the right time to launch denim?
Lenczner: For us, denim was an instinctive brand extension. We saw an opportunity to bring our signature dedication to fit, quality, and enduring style to the jean — the blazer’s most natural counterpart. Our customer already lives in denim, and we wanted to give her a pair she could trust the way she trusts her Smythe tailoring.

Q: How would you summarize the collection designs?
Smythe: Each style is inspired by denim we’ve collected over the years, starting with classic rigid cotton that moulds to the body with wear and creating vintage washes that carry the spirit of a time-cherished jean.
Q: Is there a standout style?
Lenczner: The debut collection is intentionally concise, offering timeless fits that feel essential rather than overly trend driven. If we had to choose a hero, it would be the Owl Jean. It is a highrise with a subtle bootleg: flattering, versatile, and designed to anchor a wardrobe the way a blazer does.
Q: Is there anything unique you can share about the design, manufacturing or material?
Smythe: We chose a mid-weight, 13.10-ounce cotton denim — the sweet spot for structure and comfort. It holds its shape, moulds to the body over time, and feels seasonless. For the diehard stretch denim customer we designed the Wren Jean, a tapered cropped style with 2 per cent elastane. Each pair honours traditional denim construction while offering the polish and precision our customer expects from Smythe.
