The Londoner was “very happy” about the grand opening, she said. She had visited an Adonis store several times while visiting a friend who lives in Montreal. “When I heard that there’s going to be one in London, I was so excited, and I was counting the days for the opening,” she said, adding the bakery’s bread was a big draw.

The 45-year-old, who lives close to the new supermarket, was there with his two sons and daughter. He shopped at Adonis stores when he lived in Mississauga and wanted to “see the new place” and support the new location, he said. Calling the supermarket’s Egyptian mangoes “the best ever,” the Egypt native added: “They get some stuff from back home (and it) reminds you of the stuff that you eat when you grew up.”

The 49-year-old said his sister lives in Whitby and he insists they stop at an Adonis store when he visits her. “I say to my sister, ‘We got to go to Adonis, because they have everything here,'” especially bread and snacks. He said he’d be back later to show his mother the new store.

She said her husband’s family lives in Montreal and she went to an Adonis store for the first time there three decades ago. She said also shopped at a Toronto-area store when she worked at a Scarborough hospital. Leney was in the meat department where the store’s shish taouk – marinated and grilled chicken skewers – caught her eye. “They have so many varieties,” she said. The new London store “looked very good,” Leney added, noting the chain’s “fruit and vegetable prices are always very good.”

The new 4,275-square-metre (46,000-square-foot) store is “huge” and “amazing,” the 54-year-old Londoner said while visiting with her husband. She once lived in the United Arab Emirates for seven years, and lauded Adonis’s “catering to the Middle Eastern community” as “amazing.” She said she was excited by the selection of nuts, and was looking for preserved lemon, which she uses in her cooking.
