The 49th album from the rock star is the first to feature backing from his new band the Chrome Hearts. As has been the case with many of his groups over his long career, the new crew includes members of previous units. Three of the four members of the Chrome Hearts were also members of Promise of the Real, which backed the singer on his last tour.

These include guitarist Micah Nelson, son of outlaw country legend Willie Nelson, bassist Corey McCormick and drummer Anthony LoGerfro. The group is rounded out by organist Spooner Oldham, a Young collaborator dating back to his 1992 record Harvest Moon. Oldham is a songwriter and session musician with a resumé that includes tenure in the Muscle Shoals Rhythm Section, which backed up R&B stars such as Aretha Franklin, Wilson Picket and Percy Sledge.

Young has been debuting his new material on the tour as well as covering hits and deep cuts back to his first solo album, and Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young days to classics such as 1974s Ambulance Blues and others.
