Inflexion Games CEO Aaryn Flynn announced the layoffs on Oct. 30 with a statement posted on X. The news comes just over a month after Inflexion pivoted the direction of its current game, Nightingale, in hopes of garnering more player interest.

In the statement, Flynn says the past weeks “have been incredibly challenging, and no words can adequately express the sadness we feel. Like many other studios over the past few years, we have been hit by the stark realities of the industry, and after exploring every possible option, we’ve had to make the difficult decision to let go of some of our remarkable and talented team members.”

While Flynn didn’t say exactly how many employees were laid off, Inflexion told Postmedia via email that seven employees were let go as part of the U.K. office’s closure and “dozens of employees” were let go from the Edmonton office.

Flynn said: “Our priority is to support each member of the team affected by the reductions as they search for new opportunities.”

Inflexion did not clarify how former employees would be compensated for the layoffs.

The news comes near the end of a second devastating year for the video game industry, as there have been roughly 13,000 layoffs in 2024.

In 2023, there were roughly 10,000 layoffs.
